Zayed House for Islamic Culture

Tabah Foundation signed a three year agreement with the Zayed House for Islamic Culture in Al-Ain, UAE, to provide and assist the House in developing curricula and Islamic thought for new Muslims.

The centre was established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, founder and leader of the United Arab Emirates, in 1983 to serve the needs of new Muslims.

Objectives

  • Draft and implement a five year strategic plan establishing ZHIC's objectives.
  • Prepare advanced educational curricula and cultural materials for multiple levels of comprehension.
  • Establish a qualified and competent workforce to serve the House in its development.
  • Establish a leading library for Islamic books.
  • To launch an Arabic learning program.

Tasks for 2009

  • Lay a strategic plan for the next five years and prepare an annual operating and educational plan to realize it.
  • Purchase books for distribution and start establishment of the library.
  • Prepare the initial stage of the ZHIC curricula.
  • Publish cultural and introductory materials and books.
  • Participate in cultural seminars inside and outside the UAE.
  • Prepare an Arabic Language Teaching Program for non-Arabic speakers.
  • Design courses for the professional development of ZHIC staff and start recruitment of adequately qualified staff.

Accomplishments

  • Five year strategic plan based on the strategic plan of Abu Dhabi.
  • Evaluation of all books currently available in ZHIC, approval of appropriate titles and purchase of 2,000 new books.
  • Concept plan for the establishment of a new library and educational building.
  • Preparation plan for development of ZHIC educational curricula and hiring a specialized company to implement it.
  • Concept plan to research and study similar organizations inside and outside the UAE & contract a specialist organization to execute it.
  • Supervision over the preparation and implementation of programs for a number of ZHIC events
  • Participation in several conferences inside and outside the UAE, e.g. Bahrain, Qatar and Sharjah
  • Delivery of several lectures on Islamic Culture in association with various institutions inside and outside the UAE, including John Hopkins University, Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan's Office (UAE), Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and The Emirates Foundation.
  • Concept plan for an Arabic language teaching program
  • Delivery of Arabic courses to Malaysian and US Muslims in association with specialized local centers.
