Litaarafu - The Search for Mutual Understanding Conference
In the aftermath of the Danish cartoons saga, the Tabah Foundation sought to engage in dialogue with the country that soon became the focus of the Muslim world.
Driven by a desire to build bridges and close gaps, the Tabah Foundation organized a two day conference that was attended by a diverse group of individuals from Europe and the Muslim world to engage in dialogue and discussion concerning critical topics of the time.
Objectives
- To inform the non-Muslim world of the religion of Islam and the person of the Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace, with the goal of clarifying and removing misconceptions that may have been formed.
- To establish cooperative links with organizations in the West to engage in dialogue and discussion that will lead to the proposal of solutions for many of the problems faced in the world today.
Accomplishments
- Successful execution of the two day conference, which included trips of cultural significance to areas in Abu Dhabi.
- The Abu Dhabi Statement, co-signed by all participants and attendees of the conference. It stated the understandings reached by all parties and vowed for a continuation of dialogue in order to promote a greater understanding of the "other".
- Establishment of links between the Tabah Foundation and the Danish Youth Council, a representative body of 800,000 Danish students.
