The council first convened on 13 January, 2008, at the foundation where the reviewed the proceedings of the Academic Steering Committee. The Shaykh received his primary and secondary schooling at Damascus. In 1953 he joined the Faculty of Shariah at al-Azhar University, and completed his doctorate in 1965 at the same University. In 1975, he was given the position of the vice dean to Faculty of Law at the University of Damascus, and later in 1977 as the dean. He authored more than sixty books on various Islamic issues, and was considered an important scholar of the approach based on the four schools of Sunni Islam. He obtained a degree from the College of Sacred Law at Damascus University in 1965. He continued his studies in Egypt, and in 1980 he obtained a master\u2019s degree from Al-Azhar University and his doctorate from the Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh in 1986.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from his religious capacities he also served as the Jordanian ambassador to Iran between 1996 and 2001. He was raised in a household that possessed a tradition and lineage of Islamic scholarship as a descendent of prophet Muhammad (saw). He memorized the Qu\u2019ran at a very young age, and memorized core texts in Fiqh, Arabic language, Hadith, and many other religious sciences under major scholars.<\/p>\n<p>He established Dar al-Mustafa, an Islamic educational seminary in Tarim, which accepts students from a variety of countries. Habib Omar bin Hafiz travels regularly between east and west to meet with students and leaders, deliver talks and media interviews.
